Rico Tejuino Los Reyes
Rico Tejuino Los Reyes is a fantastic place that offers delicious and flavorful ice cream. One of the recommended flavors is the Tamarindo ice cream, known for its tangy and refreshing taste.
I had the opportunity to try their water-based nieves in various flavors such as strawberry, mango, tamarindo, jamaica, and limón. Among them, my personal favorites were the strawberry and mango. Although there was a line of about 7 people and a wait of approximately 35 minutes, the nieves were definitely worth it, and I am looking forward to returning to try more flavors.
I must say that everything I’ve ordered at Rico Tejuino Los Reyes has been delicious. It truly offers the best Mexican ice cream. From flavors like coconut, strawberry, lime/lemon, hibiscus, guava, pistachio, nuts/almond, to their amazing Tostilocos, the menu is filled with mouthwatering options.
Additionally, this place is the go-to spot for party fruit trays. They offer a wide range of items, including homemade fresh ice creams, blended vitamin juices, fruit cups, bionicos, and much more.

Fosters Freeze 2704 Whittier Blvd
Foster’s Freeze is a place where I have embraced the tradition of grabbing a large chocolate malt, thanks to my local friends. Despite some negative reviews and faded decorations, Foster’s is truly a historical landmark that shouldn’t be overlooked.
Ever since I lived in Boyle Heights, Foster’s Freeze has been the go-to spot for getting ice cream. If you happen to visit, I highly recommend trying the cookies and cream TWISTER or the banana TWISTER.
Prepare yourself with a generous amount of cash and treat your taste buds to a variety of delicious milkshakes handcrafted in the old-school style. For about $5, you can indulge in a small shake in any flavor. Once you discover your favorites, go all out and upgrade to a large size with the help of a few more bills. Consider peeling off a President Hamilton bill for the large size, along with a President Washington bill and some loose change. My personal favorites are the Cherry and Peach flavors.
Foster’s Freeze doesn’t offer indoor seating, so it’s a “to go” experience. You can enjoy your shake, munch on your treats, and sip your drink in the comfort of your vehicle while parked in their spacious lot.
This location would be ideal for a car or motorcycle club to gather after the Park Daze Show/Meeting. Why not rally your friends on Facebook and plan a milkshake “suck ‘n swallow” event? And hey, leave the kids at home and make it a special car date for you and your partner.
Foster’s Freeze is a nostalgic and classic establishment that offers delightful milkshakes and a unique experience. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to savor their tasty treats and create lasting memories.

The Dolly Llama
The Dolly Llama is a delightful ice cream shop located right on the corner, making it easy to spot. However, due to its location on a busy street, finding parking can be a bit inconvenient. I found myself circling the block a few times in search of a place to pull over. As a first-time visitor, I found the menu to be overwhelming since it lacks detailed descriptions of the offerings. Each item is presented with a cute name and a picture, leaving some ambiguity. Nonetheless, the employees were friendly and watching them prepare the orders was a cool experience. The upstairs sitting area provides a nice touch, allowing customers to relax and enjoy their desserts.
The ice cream at The Dolly Llama was absolutely amazing. The waffles offered a choice of styles, and I personally enjoyed the soft and fluffy bubble waffle, while my fiance preferred the harder outer shell of the regular waffle. The girl serving us was incredibly helpful and patient. We definitely plan on visiting again.
After having dinner in the area, my family and I decided to try The Dolly Llama for dessert. While parking posed a challenge, it wasn’t too difficult. The customer service we received was exceptional, with polite and courteous employees. The ice cream contraptions we ordered were delicious and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. We are looking forward to returning and I highly recommend giving this place a try.
