Sushi Zo 9824 National Blvd UNIT C
Sushi Zo is a hidden gem that has gained recognition over the years, although it’s no longer as hidden due to its worldwide expansion. The original location, opened 16 years ago and led by chef Susumu Ueda, remains a standout. Sushi Zo is part of a chain of tiny restaurants under the same name, with locations all over the world. This particular location impresses with its surprising dishes and seasonal fish, with 90% of the ingredients sourced from Japan. Their 21-course omakase is a culinary journey that leaves diners neither hungry nor disappointed. It is highly recommended for its high-end nigiri sushi and original Japanese delights. To top it off, the gyokuro tea at the end of the meal is a great addition. Sushi Zo is a must-visit for those seeking an exceptional dining experience.
Chef Keizo, the mastermind behind Sushi Zo, has created an exceptional omakase experience that remains authentic and true to its Japanese roots. Each bite is a delight, leaving you craving for more. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned sushi connoisseur, Sushi Zo delivers delicious, perfectly seasoned, and incredibly fresh fish. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall dining experience. It’s an experience that will leave you eagerly anticipating your next visit to Sushi Zo.
Sushi Zo is often regarded as one of the best sushi restaurants in the world, and for good reason. Chef K Zo, who started this humble establishment over a decade ago, has expanded the brand to other locations in DTLA, NYC, and has plans for a new Sushi Zo in Dallas, TX. The hallmark of Sushi Zo is their 20+ course omakase, where each bite is a divine expression of culinary artistry. From homemade miso soup to salmon sushi with a delicate layer of seaweed gelee, the attention to detail is exquisite. The concept of filling up one morsel at a time is executed with precision, leaving little room for mistakes. At Sushi Zo, perfection is the norm. The price for such an experience is around $200 per person, and when paired with equally amazing sake and service, the cost can reach an additional $100. This may well be the ultimate “treat yourself” sushi experience, where the focus is solely on the food. The restaurant itself is unassuming and simple, allowing diners to fully immerse themselves in the culinary journey.
It’s worth noting that over the years, the portions at Sushi Zo have become smaller compared to a decade ago. Nevertheless, the fish remains fresh and delicious, and the combinations of flavors are delightful. The lunch omakase is an adventure in itself, and it’s advisable to allocate around two hours for the full experience. Unfortunately, some customers have reported difficulty understanding the waitstaff, which can be a slight drawback.

Katsuya 800 W Olympic Blvd STE 220
Katsuya is a restaurant known for its nice atmosphere and enjoyable dining experience. If you’re looking for a view, dining on the patio allows you to observe people ice skating. The food is good, although some may find the options for rolls to be limited. However, the dishes are made with fresh ingredients, and the drinks are fun and enjoyable. It’s worth noting that the hand rolls may not be to everyone’s taste. The service is commendable, with the server offering helpful suggestions for both food and drinks, adding to the overall dining experience.
When considering the taste of the food and the value for money, Katsuya, including this location and all other Katsuya restaurants, proves to be worthwhile. They offer a variety of options at prices comparable to other sushi restaurants, with the exception of the expected markup due to its location. Located near LA Live, the Convention Arena, and Crypto, the crowd dining around you will vary depending on the events happening that night. For instance, if there’s a concert, you may find more formally dressed diners and a mature crowd. On the night of the NFL experience, families were present due to the event.

The service is great, with the staff being attentive and friendly. The food is absolutely delicious, making this location in Downtown Los Angeles worth a visit. Special mention goes to one of the managers named Sharito, who was incredibly sweet and added to the positive dining experience.
The sashimi at Katsuya lives up to high expectations, as it is very fresh and of superior quality compared to standard sushi restaurants. The atmosphere is stellar, and the service is outstanding. The server strikes a perfect balance between being available and not hovering, allowing for uninterrupted private dinner conversations, which is a rarity in some establishments.
The food at Katsuya is pretty good, and the inviting atmosphere adds to the dining experience. The seaweed salad is recommended, as well as the Salmon rolls. The waitress, Courtney, stands out for her politeness and helpfulness. Her impressive knowledge of the menu is commendable. The overall service and quality of the food make for an excellent experience.
If you’re seeking excellent sushi and customer service, Katsuya is the place to go. This location is quite spacious and can get busy, so it’s advisable to make reservations when possible. Both indoor and outdoor seating options are available, and LA Live provides parking facilities. The server will inform you about the daily specials. SUGARFISH by sushi nozawa 600 W 7th St #150
SUGARFISH by Sushi Nozawa is a top-notch sushi restaurant that offers a five-star dining experience, albeit at a higher price point. The sushi served here is of excellent quality, prepared with precision and skill. The Nozawa Trust Me, in particular, is a satisfying option that can easily feed two people. While the prices may be steep, the overall experience and quality of the food make it worth it for sushi enthusiasts.
A visit to SUGARFISH is truly a spectacular sushi experience. It stands out as one of the most enjoyable dining experiences, even when compared to global culinary adventures. Finding the restaurant can be a bit challenging due to discreet signage, but that only adds to its charm. The contemporary and serene ambiance gives it a hole-in-the-wall feel. Opting for the “don’t think, just eat” omakase and pairing it with a bottle of unfiltered sake resulted in a phenomenal combination of flavors and textures. One of the highlights was a special scallop with ponzu. Moreover, the pricing is surprisingly reasonable, further enhancing the overall satisfaction. A return visit is eagerly anticipated.
Without a doubt, SUGARFISH by Sushi Nozawa is the best sushi restaurant one can experience. The commitment to the principles of Nozawa-style sushi is evident in every bite. The fish is exceptionally flavorful and has a delightful texture—especially the melt-in-your-mouth salmon. The sake selection is also impressive, and I highly recommend trying one. My friend and I each enjoyed the Trust Me option, and it provided a fulfilling mini-omakase experience at a fair price.
Overall, the evening at SUGARFISH was enjoyable. The sushi rice was slightly softer than desired, and the sushi vinegar used affected the balance of the rice. The rice-to-fish ratio leaned towards excessive rice, and a preference for less rice was noted. The fusion dish at the end of the tasting course was the least favorite. Despite these minor shortcomings, the experience still ranked highly, and it would not impact the overall rating.
The spacious yet cozy ambiance, coupled with sleek and contemporary interiors, added to the overall dining experience. The low lighting created an intimate atmosphere, perfect for enjoying the meal.
The sushi at SUGARFISH is amazing, accompanied by impeccable service. Opting for one of the “Trust Me” options, such as the Nozawa, keeps things simple and enjoyable. Since the restaurant can get busy, it’s advisable to arrive early or be prepared for a potential wait. While waiting, you can even put your name on the list and visit Seven Grand, located a few doors down, for a glass of whiskey.

KINARI ABURI SUSHI & Noodles has quickly become my new favorite neighborhood sushi spot. The crispy tuna rice is absolutely delicious, and their sushi pieces are always fresh and flavorful. I appreciate the wide range of options on their menu, and the prices are quite reasonable. It’s been a while since West Hollywood had a good neighborhood sushi spot, so I’m thrilled that KINARI ABURI SUSHI & Noodles is here to satisfy our cravings.
When we first arrived at KINARI ABURI SUSHI & Noodles, we were initially surprised by the lack of customers. However, we decided to give it a try, and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the attentive service. The prices at KINARI ABURI SUSHI & Noodles are reasonable for the area, and the staff is always accommodating and friendly. The fact that they have a dog-friendly patio area is a major plus. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in search of great food and a pleasant dining experience.
Although KINARI ABURI SUSHI & Noodles recently changed ownership, we haven’t noticed any differences in the quality or portion size of the dishes. Some items may have seen a slight increase in price, but overall, it remains reasonably priced. Additionally, they have expanded their menu, providing more options to choose from.
The food at KINARI ABURI SUSHI & Noodles is truly amazing, from the flavorful ramen to the beautifully presented sushi. The miso ramen was cooked to perfection, with the noodles retaining their texture and the seared pork adding a delightful touch. The restaurant’s ambiance is pleasant, with just the right amount of music and a calm environment. I want to extend my thanks to the chef and the entire staff at Kinari for creating such a wonderful dining experience.

Sushi Takeda 123 Astronaut Ellison S Onizuka St #307
Sushi Takeda is an amazing little omakase place that’s perfect for a romantic date night, anniversary celebration, or for anyone who truly appreciates the exquisite flavors of Japanese cuisine. The restaurant may be small and tucked away on the 3rd floor, but it exudes a cozy ambiance, and the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. Since the change in ownership, Sushi Takeda now exclusively offers omakase, which means the price is slightly higher than ordering sushi “a la carte” elsewhere. However, the experience, quality of the dishes, and the unique offerings make it well worth the price. It is highly recommended to make advance, pre-paid reservations to secure a spot.
I had an exceptional omakase experience at Sushi Takeda. The sushi chefs at the counter showcased their immense talent and were also very friendly. Despite arriving late due to heavy traffic, the staff accommodated us and ensured that we enjoyed every part of the course. The sushi was incredibly fresh, and I was informed that many of the fish I savored had arrived fresh from Japan that day. The restaurant itself is nice and clean, and it is conveniently located on the 2nd floor of the plaza.
The seasonal fish at Sushi Takeda is unbelievably fresh and leaves a delightful sensation in your mouth. Every bite feels like the fish is diving straight into your taste buds, allowing you to truly appreciate the authentic taste of raw fish.
In my opinion, Sushi Takeda is the best small traditional sushi joint in Little Tokyo. The sushi chefs and servers go above and beyond to ensure an authentic and enjoyable dining experience. The quality of the fish is top-notch, and the cooked dishes complement the sashimi and sushi beautifully. The omakase menu features both familiar and seasonal elements, offering a delightful variety. To enhance the experience, they serve Sapporo and Asahi on tap. Keep in mind that the restaurant is tiny and tends to fill up quickly on weekends. Fortunately, they offer 2-hour parking with validation.
Sushi Takeda is a great addition to the dining scene in Little Tokyo. Located on the 3rd floor of the Weller Court mall, it has taken over from Mako sushi, which was also highly regarded for its quality. Whether you’re seeking an authentic sushi experience or eager to try something new, Sushi Takeda is definitely worth a visit.

Sakana Sushi Lounge DTLA
Sakana Sushi Lounge DTLA is truly one of the best dining spots in Downtown Los Angeles, as well as a favorite overall. From our first visit last week, we couldn’t resist going back for more. The sushi here is absolutely delicious, and the appetizers, drinks, service, and overall ambiance will never disappoint. Be sure to try their Japanese Croquette—it’s simply yum!
The staff at Sakana Sushi Lounge is incredibly sweet, warm, and welcoming. The menu offers both staple items and the option to have them cooked, seared, or raw. We had the pleasure of trying the garlic roll and the rainbow roll, both of which were equally appetizing. Even on a late Tuesday evening, just off the bustling downtown area, this place is a must-visit. And don’t worry about parking; it’s not a problem here.
The atmosphere at Sakana Sushi Lounge is amazing! The interior exudes class and elegance. The prices are great, the rolls are fresh and tasty, and the service is perfect. While I don’t visit the area often, I will definitely make it a point to come back here whenever I can.
The food at Sakana Sushi Lounge is simply delicious. The ambiance is great, and the staff is exceptionally friendly. A special thank you to the chef who made a little roll for my child—it was the cutest thing ever, and my baby devoured it in no time!
For a touch of elegance, romance, and relaxation, you can’t go wrong with Sakana Sushi Lounge. Whether you’re a couple, with friends, or dining alone, you’ll always feel like you’ve come to the perfect place. The appetizers are flavorful, the main course is exquisite, and the drinks hit the spot. You simply have to go!

Kombu Sushi 3719 Sunset Blvd
Kombu Sushi is a wonderful sushi spot located in Echo Park. We’ve been here before and have enjoyed dining inside, but this time we opted for the back patio seating. The staff was incredibly fast and generous, providing us with excellent service. We ordered a couple of rolls and sake, and within just 10 minutes, our food was served. The service was impressively quick. While the prices can be on the higher side, we didn’t mind paying $10 per roll because they were absolutely delicious. The location is great, the food is fantastic, and the staff is top-notch. If you’re in search of a sushi spot, I highly recommend Kombu Sushi. I’ll definitely be returning soon!
The food at Kombu Sushi is excellent! During my short visit to LA, I stumbled upon this gem while walking around. They serve super fresh sushi in a clean and cozy environment. The chef was creative and attentive to our requests. The prices were reasonable, offering great value without being overpriced.
Some of my favorite appetizers at Kombu Sushi include the miso black cod, agedashi tofu, and fried soft shell crabs. Their sushi and sashimi plates are also delicious, and I especially enjoy their yuzu spritz drink. It’s a cute little local spot that never disappoints.
The food and staff at Kombu Sushi are truly amazing. Located on Sunset Ave in Silver Lake, it’s an excellent place to dine. They even have a club and host block parties, providing opportunities for dancing and fun.
The sushi at Kombu Sushi is excellent. I tried a variety of their fish options with a full nigiri order, and each piece was delightful. The back patio provides a nice and quiet atmosphere for enjoying your meal.
Kombu Sushi is bomb, tasty, fresh, and perfect. What sets them apart is that they don’t overload their rolls with sticky rice. It’s my go-to sushi spot! The salmon skin rolls are my favorite, and they do an amazing job with them. I appreciate the consistency and dedication they have in serving bomb food.

Murakami Sushi 7160 Melrose Ave
Murakami Sushi is our favorite local sushi restaurant in LA! We discovered it through a Google search, and ever since then, it has become our go-to spot. It never fails to impress us with its quality and service. Unlike your typical chain sushi places, Murakami is smaller and more personable. The setting is quaint and perfect for first dates or gatherings with friends. They have a sushi bar in the middle, and there’s also a small outdoor patio for seating.
The dishes at Murakami are prepared by sushi chefs who are like local rockstars. The waitstaff and seating staff are equally amazing, showing kindness and care. You can truly taste the quality of the fish with every bite.
The sushi and service at Murakami are excellent. The lemon salmon roll is fantastic, and the half shell ponzu oysters are delicious. The sashimi is outstanding, with perfectly cut and fresh fish.
Despite the traffic and parking meters, this sushi spot is absolutely worth the hassle. The food is amazing and satisfying. The staff is friendly, cheerful, professional, and polite. If I could, I would come here every week without hesitation!
If you’re looking for a great deal, try their Chirashi Sushi in a rice bowl. Pair it with Saké to replicate a true Japanese food experience. Murakami is also fantastic for Nigiri, which is hand-shaped sushi.
The food at Murakami is excellent! The only thing to keep in mind is that when the restaurant is full, the food may take a while to come out, so it’s not the best choice if you’re in a hurry. However, I highly recommend it otherwise!

SUGARFISH by sushi nozawa 101 S La Brea Ave
SUGARFISH by Sushi Nozawa offers some of the best quality fish I’ve ever tasted. The customer service is excellent, as the host even accommodated our request to move tables for more comfort.
The sushi at SUGARFISH is served in the traditional Japanese “omakase” style, where the chef curates a meal based on your preferences, budget, and the availability of seasonal ingredients.
You have the option to order a set menu or leave it up to the chef to decide. We chose to let the chef decide, and it was a delightful experience trying different types of fish that I wouldn’t normally order. I enjoyed most of them, and I’m already looking forward to returning in the future!
The sushi at SUGARFISH is delicious and of high quality. The ambiance inside the restaurant is slightly dim, creating a cozy atmosphere. The wait time to be seated wasn’t too long, and once seated, I highly recommend trying the bay scallop sushi and lobster hand rolls—they are my absolute favorites. If you prefer a lighter option, the Trust Me Lite set menu is perfect. Additionally, there is ample street parking available on La Brea.
I must say, the sushi and sashimi at SUGARFISH are truly some of the freshest and tastiest I’ve ever had. The “Trust Us” tasting menus are the way to go, as the dishes are not only delicious but also beautifully prepared. I arrived early and was seated promptly, and I can confidently say that the experience is worth every penny and more.

Sushi Enya Little Tokyo 343 1st St
Sushi Enya in Little Tokyo offers a unique and enjoyable dining experience. The person working at the front of the restaurant is exceptional, wearing multiple hats and providing efficient and kind service. As you are led to your seat, there is an announcement in Japanese followed by a warm welcome from the entire staff. Sitting at the sushi bar allows you to witness the artistry of the chefs as they meticulously prepare each dish with great attention to detail. The only drawback is that parking validation is not provided for the nearby Japanese Village parking garage.
One of the menu highlights is the Special Hand Roll, although some may find it pricey for what it offers. The Assorted Sashimi is a platter featuring two pieces each of six different types of fish. The order in which to eat them is explained, with the flavors ranging from “least good” to “great.” The fifth variety stands out as a favorite among customers. Another notable roll is the Cherry Blossom, which is incredibly fresh and comes in a generous portion size. It is worth mentioning that this roll does not contain rice, which makes it slightly more delicate. On the other hand, the Crunchy Vegas roll is considered basic and lacks a bit of flavor.
While Sushi Enya is a good restaurant, some patrons feel that the quality of the food does not quite justify the price.
In addition to the delightful cuisine, Sushi Enya offers a charming atmosphere. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating, as they were able to find seats for customers at the chef’s table even before the official opening time. The entire staff goes above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience. If you opt for the tasting menu, you have the opportunity to sample a variety of dishes. However, if you visit again, you might prefer to order a few of your favorites. Watching the chefs skillfully prepare sushi is a mesmerizing sight. They even offer a vegan tasting menu, and the garlic edamame is highly recommended.

Sushi Nabeeya 766 Santee St
Sushi Nabeeya is an incredible neighborhood sushi spot that offers sashimi bowls and sushi at an unbeatable price. The quality of their offerings is exceptional, making it a must-visit destination for sushi lovers.
During my visit, I ordered the Chirashi Bowl and the Salmon Bowl. The Chirashi Bowl was a delightful experience with its generous portions of high-quality and thickly sliced fish. Each bite was a true pleasure, and I was particularly impressed by the inclusion of yellowtail belly, which had beautifully marbled fat and added a decadent touch to the bowl. The addition of salad and seaweed salad complemented the fish perfectly. What amazed me even more was the affordability of these bowls, priced at just $16 each. The value for such high-quality ingredients and flavors is simply unbelievable.
The sushi at Sushi Nabeeya is among the best I have ever tasted. Dining on the sidewalk and engaging in conversations with fellow diners added to the overall experience, making it a memorable day in the city. Our order included the Crunch Roll, the Washington Roll, fresh Salmon, Garlic Edamame, Pot Stickers, and a side salad with House dressing. Each dish was prepared with care and showcased the restaurant’s commitment to serving outstanding food.
Sushi Nabeeya has become my favorite sushi spot in the area. I find myself coming here for lunch regularly, and the experience never gets old. The quality of the food and the service are exceptional. One of the highlights of visiting this restaurant is the opportunity to chat with the owner and chefs, who are not only skilled but also laid-back and friendly. Their consistently amazing food and warm hospitality make Sushi Nabeeya a must-try for anyone in the DTLA area.

Hama Sushi 347 E 2nd St
Hama Sushi is a place where the focus is on enjoying exceptional sushi and sashimi. While the service may not be as attentive as some other restaurants, the quality of the food is outstanding. The establishment has its own set of rules that customers are expected to follow, such as no photography and no taking home a paper menu. However, the experience is well worth it, considering the remarkable quality of the dishes and the reasonable prices.
With only a limited number of seats available, it’s advisable to be prepared for a potential wait. However, if you’re fortunate, like we were on a weekday night, you may get seated earlier than expected. Some standout favorites include the hand rolls, fatty tuna belly, spicy tuna maki, and delectable sweet shrimp and uni.
The freshness of the fish at Hama Sushi is truly exceptional. The chef brings an authentic touch to the culinary experience and treats guests with kindness. The Tamaki Negitoro and Kinnedai are particularly noteworthy and should not be missed. If you visit the restaurant alone, you might have a higher chance of getting a seat without having to wait.
Without a doubt, Hama Sushi offers the best sushi in the entire United States. The spicy maki rolls, featuring tuna, yellowtail, and salmon, are unparalleled. The salmon skin is also exceptional. In fact, every item on the menu, as well as those off the menu, is mind-blowing. I have searched far and wide for sushi of this caliber and taste in America, but I always find myself returning to Hama. The chefs at Hama Sushi are also exceptional, adding to the overall dining experience. Despite the potential for a long wait, the experience is truly worth it.
Whenever I’m craving the best sushi, Hama Sushi is my go-to spot. During a visit on a busy Saturday evening in August, we checked in at 7 PM and were told the wait would be one hour. However, we ended up waiting for two hours before being seated. Nevertheless, I always make it a point to order the yellowtail sashimi, spicy tuna roll, and soft-shell crab roll. This time, I also tried the scallop sushi, and its amazing sweetness left a lasting impression. Hama Sushi is an absolute must-visit whenever you’re in Little Tokyo.

Arashi Sushi 1111 S Hope St #100
Arashi Sushi is a delightful restaurant that offers a combination of delicious food, fast service, and friendly staff. During my first visit, I was thoroughly impressed and already planning my return. The restaurant has ample seating, and their menu offers a wide selection of items to choose from.
Among our order, the J’s Special, Yellowtail Hamachi with Jalapeño, and the albacore special roll stood out as the highlights. However, I must admit that everything we tried was incredibly tasty, and I would confidently recommend this place to anyone. I look forward to returning soon to explore more of their offerings.
Arashi Sushi is undoubtedly one of my favorite sushi spots in Downtown LA. The customer service is excellent, and the quality of fish is top-notch. I particularly love their uni and often indulge in their Garlic Albacore, Truffle Salmon, and Seaweed salad. For those who enjoy sake, I highly recommend trying their hot sake or milky sake in a bottle, and don’t miss out on their baked blue crab hand roll.
The Szechuan Tuna, featuring Bluefin Tuna with Spicy Chili Oil Garlic Butter and Spicy Ponzu Sauce, is an absolute sensation! I paired it with a side of their flavorful seaweed salad, and it was a delightful combination.
Arashi Sushi offers a quaint and cozy ambiance, making it a convenient choice for those visiting the LA Convention Center. The prices are affordable, considering the quality of sushi they serve. The food is delicious, and the atmosphere is surprisingly quiet for a downtown LA location. I highly recommend giving this place a try.
The restaurant provides excellent service, and the food is simply delicious. The skewers make for a perfect appetizer, and the udon broth strikes a wonderful balance of flavors. Don’t forget to try one of their rolls as well – you can’t go wrong with any choice.
Arashi Sushi is truly a great spot that excels in both service and food quality. We made a reservation through Google Maps and were pleasantly surprised by the experience. The sushi here is fantastic, and everything is served fast, fresh, and with utmost care. I personally enjoyed the Downtown Roll, which is wrapped in cucumber without rice but generously filled with a variety of fish. It’s filling without feeling heavy. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to sushi enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
